Virginia Tech freshman Garland Green — a product of Tazewell — is in 16th place after the first round at the Furman Intercollegiate in Greenville, S.C. Playing as an individual, Green shot a 1-over par 73 to trail the leader by four strokes. The Hokies, who are the defending champions in the event, were in 11th place as a team.
