Big Blues' Brooks is golf medalist
HUNTINGTON — Bluefield State College’s Derek Brooks had the best score of the day Sunday as the Esquire Invitational for collegiate golfers concluded near Huntington. Brooks, of Mullens, earned medalist honors with an even par 72.
The Big Blues finished third in the tournament with a 317 team total. California of Pennsylvania took the team title with a 306, followed by West Virginia Wesleyan at 313.
Aiding the Bluefield State cause were Princeton’s Jonathan Bailey and Iaeger resident Chris Sparks, who each shot 81 on Sunday.
