PV’s Weitzel wins again

ONA — PikeView Middle School’s Jason Weitzel won the Geico Classic cross country meet held on Saturday at Cabell Midland High School.

Weitzel captured the 3,300 meter middle school race for the second straight year in an event that included 117 runners from three states, including Kentucky and Ohio.

PikeView senior Chelsea East finished 12th in the varsity event, while the boys were paced by Eric Lawson.

Sophie Klein was the top finisher for the PikeView Middle School team.

Varsity Boys

PikeView (finished 16 out of 23 teams, 159 runners): 44th. Eric Lawson 19:00; 85. Stephen Kinser 20:29; 111 Austin Smith 21:55; 113 Austin Ponce’ 21: 59; 121 Garrett Butler 22:33.

Varsity Girls

PikeView (no teams, 130 runners): 12. Chelsea East 21:30; 102. Raelyn Smith 27:30; 122  Shakiya Diggs 31:55.

Middle School Boys

PikeView (4th out of 17 teams, 117 runners): 1. Jason Weitzel 11:35; 17 Hunter Klein 12:47; 26 Joe Bisaha 13:08; 38 Dakota Cecil 13:30; 57 E.J. Taylor 14:17; 82  Bradley Lawson 14:50; 102 Tanner Alvarez 15:37.

Middle School Girls

PikeView (14th out of 16 teams, 202 runners): 77 Sophie Klein 16:49; 82 Kai Lawson 17:06; 111 Lauryn Hatfield 17:53; 124 Katelyn Odle 18:17; 125 Maya Klein 18:24;133 Martha Ball 18:41; 163 Lyndsay Hatfield 20:18; 172 Kaitlyn Johnson 20:43.

Boys Soccer

PikeView 7, Herbert Hoover 1

CLENDENIN — Will Webster scored three goals and Casey Weatherly contributed two goals and three assists to lead the Panthers to a Saturday win.

Jordan Calfee and Fernando Porras added a goal apiece, while Josh Hill and Alejandro Porras each had an assist.

Nathaniel Ellis and Adam Maxwell combined efforts in goal. Ellis was injured two minutes into the game, but Maxwell had three saves in his place.

PikeView (5-2) will play Independence on Thursday in Beckley.

Girls Soccer

PikeView 2, Herbert Hoover 0

CLENDENIN—Laura Hill and Hope Nester scored a goal apiece, helping the Panthers to a 6-0 start to the season.

Samantha Wood and Mariah Farley each had an assist. Amanda Presley recorded one save.

PikeView will host Princeton on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
