Prep Roundup: Mavs pound Summers County

HINTON — Matt Romanello rushed for 136 yards and scored two touchdowns as James Monroe got a 31-0 shutout win Friday night over the Summers County Bobcats.

Brayan Calix-Herrera added a 28-yard field goal kick with 0.7 seconds left in the second quarter, while Jordan McKinney scored on a 25-yard touchdown pass from Andrew Evans earlier in the period.

James Monroe (2-0) visits Oak Hill at 7:30 p.m. Friday, while Summers County (0-2) hosts Shady Spring at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

NEW CASTLE, Va. — Matt Ouellette rushed for 109 yards on 12 carries for Craig County which totaled 355 yards rushing on 46 total attempts in the shutout win over Bland County.

Josh Ouellette carried six times for 99 yards and had an 89-yard rushing touchdown. He also went 4-for-78 for 79 yards and threw one touchdown pass for the Rockets, who had 434 yards of total offense.

Justin Martin rushed for two touchdowns and 74 yards on 16 carries for the Rockets.

Jacob Lambert ran for 83 yards on eight rushing attempts in the first half for Bland County, which had 153 total yards of offense.

PEARISBURG, Va. — Zach Snell ran for three touchdowns to lead the Division 4 Blue Demons to a non-district win over the D-2 Spartans.

Snell scored on runs of 27, 25 and 3 yards. Cam Johnson ran for a 26-yard score, and John Winkle snagged a 20-yard pass scoring toss from Brandon Motley, who was 7-of-9 through the air.

Christiansburg (2-0) accumulated 458 yards on offense, while the Spartans were limited to 184, and also threw a pair of interceptions.

Giles (2-0), which also played D-4 Blacksburg last week, will travel to D-1 Haysi on Friday.

ST. PAUL, Va. — William Rawlins ran 54 yards for a touchdown, and Dustin Waynick returned an interception 40 yards for another score to lead the Rebels to a non-district win over the Deacons.

Reed Justice also ran for an 18-yard touchdown for the Rebels.

Hurley, who thumped Ervin-ton 40-0 last week, took a 30-26 lead after the first quarter, and then added 22 more points, while the Deacons never scored again from the second frame on.

The Rebels scored on six plays of at least 18 yards, including a quarterback keeper by Austin Cooper.

St. Paul took a 14-0 lead on 57 and 40 touchdown passes and a kick return.

Hurley will host Grundy on Friday.

CLINTWOOD, Va. — The Greenwave had no problems with the Tigers in a game that featured 11 turnovers.

Clintwood (2-0) intercepted four passes and recovered three fumbles to make up for its own lack of ball control that led to four lost fumbles.

Tanner Mullins led the Greenwave's three-pronged running attack with 96 yards on 11 carries, including a one-yard touchdown. Mancel Powers added 88 yards and two TDs, while Gavan Meade had 54 yards and another two scores.

Eric Helton led the Tigers (0-1) with 27 yards rushing.
