GREENEVILLE, Tenn. —
Deivy Estrada struck out 11 Greeneville batters and limited the Astros to two hits in six dominant innings on Sunday to lead the Bluefield Blue Jays to a 3-2 road win.
The Blue Jays broke a scoreless tie in the third. Emilio Guerrero singled and made it all the way home from first on an outfield error. The lead increased to 2-0 when Jordan Leyland led off the fifth with his first Appy League home run, over right field.
Nico Taylor doubled in the next inning and scored on Matthew Dean’s RBI groundout for a 3-0 advantage.
The Astros (35-31) picked up the game’s last two runs off reliever Tucker Jensen. In the ninth, with the potential tying run on second base, Jensen got his first save as he induced Ariel Ovando to ground out to end the game.
The Bluefield offense was held to two singles, Taylor’s double and Leyland’s homer, but Greeneville was victimized by three errors. Michael Martinez led the Astros at bat, going 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. Greeneville starter Frederick Tiburcio took the loss.
The contest took just 2 hours and 2 minutes to play in front of a crowd of 1,386 at Pioneer Park.
The season finale for Bluefield (28-36) plays out over the next two evenings in Greeneville.
