DANVILLE, Va. — Jason Patton’s two-out triple with the bases loaded in the eighth inning gave the Princeton Rays all their runs in a 3-1 win Saturday at Danville. The loss dropped the Braves (7-5) into a tie for the division lead with Princeton and Bluefield.
Four Princeton pitchers combined to hold Danville to four hits. Starter Wilking Rodriguez pitched two-hit ball over 5 2/3 innings. Tyler Oakes relieved and got his first pro win, followed by one inning each pitched by Matthew Stabelfeld and Deivis Mavares.
The Braves retired 13 of Princeton’s first 14 batters.
Princeton begins a five-day homestand today at 4 p.m., hosting West Division-leading Elizabethton.
Promotion: The first 500 fans will receive a P-Rays’ patriotic flag softee baseball.
