TAZEWELL, Va. — A trio of swimmers for the Tazewell Torpedoes have been selected captains for the 2009 season.
They include Andrew and Nathan Brown along with Allison Johnson. All three are also members of the Tazewell High School swim team.
Tazewell won a swim meet earlier this week over the Welch Stingrays 454-149, improving the Torpedoes record to 2-1 on the season in the Highlands Swimming Association.
Austin Brown won four first place finishes, while Jake Matney earned a blue ribbon in the 9-10 boys butterfly competition.
The Torpedoes named “Swimmers of the Week” during the season. Week five honorees were Kameron Altizer, Zach Ruble, Hannah Waddell, Sam Altizer, Olivia Young and Abby Matney.
Tazewell will next compete in the pool with Giles on July 9.

ATHENS — The Concord Sea Lions, who also swim in the Highlands Swim Association, dropped their first two meets of the season, falling to Tazewell and Giles.
Concord was led by Callie Lamb, who combined for eight first place finishes, including four in each of the meets. Other top finishers include Ted White and Willie Sizemore, who had four first place showings against Tazewell, while Jon Brown and Bethany Smiley had three apiece.
Andrea Blankenship had three first place finishes against Giles.
The Sea Lions will host its final home match of the season on July 9 against Welch.
