G-Men host Narrows

BLUEFIELD, Va. — The Graham G-Men are not taking tonight's contest with the Narrows Green Wave lightly.

 "To think that we can show up, because they’re 1-8, and they’re going to fall over and play dead, it isn’t happening," said G-Men head coach Mike Williams.

Narrows head coach Kelly Lowe said, "It's going to be tough, it's going to be difficult, but we're looking forward to it. You know what you're going to get with Graham: power running and a defense that'll come after you."

Weather kept Graham (6-3) off the practice field until Wednesday. Williams said, "We’re dealing with a short week, and that’s how life goes. And I think we can use it for our betterment. If we use it to recuperate and refresh from a long season, I think it could be advantageous for us.”

 The G-Men lost to Fort Chiswell 27-20 on a last-minute touchdown last weekend. Graham quarterback Spencer Sheets accounted for 214 yards of offense and intercepted a pass. Both Sheets and Cody Hatfield, who ran for 123 yards, averaged 9.4 yards per rushing attempt. Daelan Caffee had 2 1/2 pancake blocks to aid those numbers.

 Narrows fell by a 36-18 score to Grayson County, but Lowe noted, "Last week we put together four quarters. It was a good performance. ... I thought we played really hard."

Rodney Perdue and Chandler Burton connected for two touchdown passes for the Wave. Trevor Hart and Kelly Dent combined for 144 rushing yards.

A win over their Mountain Empire District neighbors from Bluefield would "just be huge," Lowe said, "giving us some momentum to carry forward into the off-season, and helping us build on this for next year."

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tonight at Mitchell Stadium.
