MONTCALM —
The points were scarce, but the outcome was decisive on Monday night as the Montcalm Lady Generals opened up the Class A, Region 3, Section 2 tournament with a 28-19 victory over Greater Beckley Christian in the Montcalm High gym.
Montcalm (7-14) limited their visitors to five points or less in each quarter, though neither team reached double-figure scoring in any of the four periods.
The Lady Generals were tied 5-5 with the Crusaders after eight minutes, then outscored their visitors to take a 14-10 halftime lead.
Seniors Leslie Kelley and Miranda Kendrick led Montcalm’s attack with eight and seven points respectively.
The top scorer for Greater Beckley Christian (3-19) was Kayla Hill with eight points.
Montcalm travels to Tug Valley this evening for a sectional semifinal contest. The championship is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m.
