BLUEFIELD, Va. —
Everett Vest and Colin Beavers captured must-win matches, enabling Graham to defeat John Battle and capture the Tazewell County tri-championship for a second straight year on Tuesday night at Graham High School.
Vest (220 pounds) and Beavers (285) won deciding matches to give Graham a thrilling 48-44 comeback win over the Trojans, after trailing with two matches to go.
Kyshon Lee pinned Austin Lankford of Richlands in 36 seconds to secure the win for Graham 40-24.
Graham also defeated Tazewell 66-6 to finish 3-0 in the four-team event and improve to 11-1 on the season.
“This is the second year in a row we have won the Tazewell County tri-championship where we wrestle the other teams in the county,” Graham wrestling coach Tim Woodward said. “Our kids wrestled well tonight, we had som really tough matches with John Battle and Richlands.”
Richlands finished 2-1, while John Battle was 1-2 and Tazewell was 0-3.
Vest, Beavers, Dustin Hagerman (113 pounds), Austin Miller (132) and Kyshon Lee (170) were 3-0 on the night. Robert Compton (195) was 2-1.
Graham will compete in the John Battle Invitational on Saturday in Bristol, Va.
