G-Men claim Mountain Empire District title

BLUEFIELD, Va. — The Graham G-Men kept their momentum going on Thursday.

Seven G-Men won championships as Graham claimed the overall Mountain Empire District Championship at Graham High School.

The G-Men had a team score of 197 points which edged second place Galax (165) by 22 points. Grayson County (100) finish third and Fort Chiswell (28) was fourth.

“It was a great team effort,” Graham wrestling coach Tim Woodward said. “The wrestling was very intense. It basically came down to the 170-pound and heavyweight matches for us to hold off Galax.

“We had seven champions and they had six. All the matches were important, but we had to win those two matches to out point Galax.”

Dustin Hagerman (106-pound class), Heath Browning (113), Shane Hudson (120), Larry Hagerman (138), Hunter Cook (145), Kevin Hale (170) and Everett Vest (285) each won their respective divisions.
