BLUEFIELD —
The Bluefield Beavers will be the top seed when the Class AA boys state tournament begins Thursday at the Charleston Civic Center, according to Bluefield High School Athletic Director Kim Miller. Bluefield (22-3) will meet eighth-seed North Marion (16-8) in the quarterfinals on Thursday. The rest of the field includes No. 2 Fairmont Senior (19-6), No. 3 Westside (19-6), No. 4 Robert C. Byrd (19-6), No. 5 Tolsia (17-8), No. 6 Bridgeport (18-7) and No. 7 Scott (15-10). The semifinals will be played on Friday, with the finals slated for Saturday. Bluefield played in the state championship game last season, losing to Tug Valley 58-52.
