BRUSHFORK — Bluefield High School Principal Michael Collins is shown shaking hands and presenting certificates of appreciation to members of the Mercer County School board and officials of the Brushfork Armory prior to the Bluefield-Graham basketball game Friday night at the armory. The school board recently purchased a new court for Bluefield High School, along with baskets and scoreboards so the BHS boys and girls basketball teams could play their home games at the Brushfork facility. In attendance representing the school board were Superintendent Dr. Deborah Akers, Asst. Superintendent Joe Turner, board members, Greg Prudich, Ted Gillespie, Mary Alice Kaufman and treasurer Joy Hubbard. Prior to the purchase of the court basketball had not been played at the facility since the 2000-01 season and the BHS boys played most of their home games at Bluefield State College’s Ned Shott Gymnasium, while the girls played on the non-regulation size court at the school.
