BRISTOL, Tenn. —
Bluefield State had its losing streak extended on Saturday as reigning Conference Carolinas champion King College (Tenn.) topped the Big Blues (0-6) 87-53. The Tornado (7-0) defense came up with 16 steals and forced the Big Blues into 27 turnovers.
Three King players finished the night in double figures, led by Drew Standifer’s 20-point effort on 7-of-11 shooting. Eddie Piccinini and Brandon Crompton scored 11 points apiece.
Senior Vincent Rogers paced BSC with 13 points and Antoine Bryant followed with 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds along with two assists.
The Big Blues out-rebounded the Tornado 44-to-38 but only dished out five assists on its 16 field goals made. King shot 47 percent (31-of-66) from the field in the contest compared to BSC’s paltry 29.6 percent (16-of-54). The Tornado held advantages in points off turnovers (26-to-13), second-chance points (18-to-10) and bench scoring (39-to-16).
BSC returns to action on Monday, Dec. 10 at Ohio Valley.
