Blues sweep Falcons

GLENVILLE — Bluefield State finally got to play baseball again, and it was a successful venture on Wednesday, defeating Fairmont State 6-4 and 9-8 in a WVIAC doubleheader.

Adam Ramsey’s two-run pinch-hit single helped the Blues to a win in the opener, while Andrew Shoemaker was able to fan the final batter in a bases-loaded and two out situation in the final inning to preserve a victory in the nightcap.

Bluefield State ace Austin Pratt pitched well for seven innings in the opener, with Martin Arias earning the win in relief.

The Blues (3-2), which had last played on Feb. 21, have already seen 12 games affected by winter weather, many of which have been rescheduled for April.

Bluefield State will play a make-up game with West Liberty on Friday, followed by a weekend trip to Cary, N.C. this weekend to face Shepherd on Saturday, and Elizabeth City State the following afternoon.

Weather permitting, the Blues will open their home slate next Tuesday against Alderson-Broaddus. They’re slated to open WVIAC Southern Division play on March 20-21 against Charleston, also at June O. Shott Field.
