GARDNER —
The PikeView boys and girls soccer teams picked up shutout wins over Nicholas County, Tuesday night on the PVHS campus in Gardner.
The boys booted past the Grizzlies 12-0. Freshman Hunter Klein had four goals. Vaughn Campbell, Alex Testerman, Seth Wood, Quinton Brown, Brandon Calfee, Isaac Harrison, Gene Weatherly and Alec White each scored a goal.
The Panthers are now 5-1 and play next on Saturday at home against Ripley at 2 p.m.
The Lady Panthers kicked their way to an 8-0 win over the visiting Grizzlies.
Charlotte Webster had four goals while Laura Hill, Madison May, Brooke Baker and Sophie Klein each scored a goal.
The Lady Panthers are now 5-2 and play Thursday at Poca.
Volleyball
PikeView wins two
GARDNER — PikeView’s volleyball team took victory in a three team match Tuesday evening at the PVHS gym in its season opening matches. The Panthers defeated Wyoming East 25-7, 25-17 and Bluefield 25-14, 25-15. Wyoming East won its match with Bluefield.
Haley Compton, Alexis May and Lena Hayworth each had six kills in the matches. Savannah Colson had four kills. Holly Mack had 14 assists and six aces, while Hannah Cook had 13 assists and seven aces.
PikeView returns to action Thursday at River View.
Princeton takes pair
PRINCETON — Princeton’s volleyball team defeated Summers County 25-8, 25-9 and then knocked off Oak Hill 22-25, 25-10, 25-23, Tuesday evening at Princeton High School.
Against Summers County Haley Conner had seven assists, 11 points and three aces. McKenzie Barnett had two kills, eight points and two aces, and Rachel Garnett had eight points.
In the match against Oak Hill Barnett had seven kills, five points and three aces. Kaley Barker had six kills and Conner had 13 assists.
Princeton is now 4-1 and will play Thursday at home against Riverside.
Boys Soccer
Princeton 4, Green. East 1
PRINCETON — Princeton improved to 4-3-1 on the season with a 4-1 win over Greenbrier East, Tuesday night.
Austin Smith had three goals for the Tigers, two on penalty kicks. Trey Shrewsbury scored the Tigers’ other goal of the match. Will Hickman, Lamont Lee and Colton Six each had an assist for Princeton.
Princeton Luke Lilly had 16 saves in the contest.
Girls Soccer
Princeton 4, Riverside 3
RIVERSIDE — Shaylah Walls scored two goals and Tori Billips and Sarah Cole added one apiece, leading the Tigers to a win over the Warriors.
Princeton improved to 5-1 and will host Greenbrier East on Thursday.
Golf
Princeton places 2nd
OAK HILL — Craig Buchanan earned medalist honors with a 31 to lead Oak Hill to a tri-match win over Princeton and Nicholas County.
Oak Hill (153) easily outdistanced the Tigers (170) and Nicholas County (193).
Princeton was paced by Tyler Hillyer and Jared Porter with a pair 39s apiece. Andrew Wilson fired a 45 and John Pruett finished with a 47.
Mavs win on the links
PIPESTEM — James Monroe took top honors at a four-team golf match, Tuesday at Pipestem State Park. The Mavericks were first at 175, followed by Summers County (186), Montcalm (188) and PikeView (210).
Medalist for the event was Ike Judy of James Monroe with a 36.
High scorers for each team was Ben Boggess (PikeView 49), John Casto (Montcalm 43), and Ben Lamb (Summers County 39). PikeView returns to the links on Thursday at Fountain Springs in a match hosted by James Monroe.
College Volleyball
Concord 3, UVa-Wise 1
ATHENS — Sarah Jones contributed 15 kills, three blocks and three digs to lead Concord to a 25-16, 25-12, 23-25, 25-21 victory over Virginia-Wise, the first home opening win for the Mountain Lions since 2009.
Jasmin Sutherland and Rebecca Lovejoy each added six kills while Brytni Willis contributed 10 digs and five kills. Nikki McMillan dished out 21 assists, while Amanda Walker added 13. Lindsey Smith led the Lady Lions with six aces.
Concord improved to 3-2 and will travel to New Castle, Del. for the Wildcat Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Princeton returns to the pitch next Tuesday at Bluefield.
