WINONA LAKE, Ind. — The Bluefield College women’s basketball team had one of its worst shooting performances of the year during an opening round match-up against North Greenville College Thursday in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Tournament. The result was a 64-51 win for the Lady Crusaders and the end of national championship hopes for the Lady Rams.
BC shot just 16 percent from three-point range and just 26 percent overall. The Lady Rams scored just 14 points in the first half after shooting a mere nine percent (1 for 11) from three and 18 percent (6 for 33) overall. BC also committed 21 turnovers.
Christina Carlis led North Greenville with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Karly Stache and Nikki Wood added 10 points each.
Sophomore Kia Gilliard led the Lady Rams in scoring with 10 points. Holly Hudson and Megan Randall added eight apiece.
While the loss ends BC’s hopes for a national championship, the Lady Rams will continue play. All eight teams in the field continue to play until not only a champion is crowned, but rankings for all teams are determined.
