BLUEFIELD —
Winter storm Draco has forced postponement of the Bluefield Invitational Classic at the Brushfork Armory and the Alpha Natural Resources Tournament at Princeton Senior High School.
Both events were scheduled to take place Friday and Saturday nights.
According to Princeton boys basketball coach Ernie Gilliard, the Alpha Natural Resources Tournament is tentatively rescheduled for Jan. 3-4.
Patrick Henry-Roanoke, James Monroe and Webster County were scheduled to play in the tournament, along with host Princeton, but Gilliard reported that Webster County may not be able to participate on those days.
In Bluefield a make-up date has not been scheduled, but Bluefield High School athletics director Kim Miller indicated work is underway to hold the first ever Bluefield Invitational after Christmas.
In addition to host Bluefield, participating teams are scheduled to be Oak Hill, Scott and Galax.
Draco also forced postponement of many boys and girls high school games in the two Virginias, Friday and Saturday.
Coaches are urged to contact the Daily Telegraph sports department with any cancellation or make-up notices by e-mailing sports@bdtonline.com, or calling 304-327-2813 after 3 p.m. daily.
