Eades recognized for milestone basket

HINTON — A week ago against the Summers County Bobcats, Bluefield Beavers junior guard Anthony Eades scored the 1,000th point of his high school basketball career.

A three-year starter for the Beavers, Eades was honored in a brief ceremony prior to Tuesday night’s game, once again against the Bobcats of Summers County.

Speaking of his accomplishment after the game, Eades said, “It means a lot to me. It’s a great accomplishment, but I couldn’t have done it without my teammates and my coaches. Without them I wouldn’t be anywhere.”

Eades comes from a basketball family. His father was a member of Princeton championship teams in 1979 and 1981 and is currently an NCAA basketball official.

“He’s a great influence, has taught me everything I know about basketball,” Eades said.

Asked if he can beat his dad on the court, the younger Eades with a smile said, “Oh yeah, he can’t mess with me any more. If he ever wants to play with me one-on-one, he can do that.”

Eades was presented a basketball signed by all members of the Beavers team and coaching staff prior to the game.
