JONESVILLE, Va. —
Grundy may have changed its district affiliation, but the Golden Wave wrestlers haven’t changed their winning ways.
Grundy amassed 215 points to claim the Clinch Mountain District prep wrestling tournament at Lee High School on Saturday. The next-highest score belonged to Lebanon High, 53 points back with a 162 team finish.
All 14 Golden Wave wrestlers advanced to next weekend’s Region D championships to be held at UVa-Wise.
The individual champions for Grundy were Maverick Coleman (106 pound class); 113-Cody Puckett (113); Austin Hurley (120); Trey Smith (132); Justin Street (138); Elliott Pedigo (145); Dylan Raines (152); Jordan McCowan (170); and Andrew Scammell (182).
At 126 pounds, Austin Compton came in second. Adam Hibbitts (220) and Daniel Honaker (285) took third place finishes, and Tristan Bonds (160) and Jonathan Jewell (195) claimed fourth-place positions.
