Shoppers planning to head for the stores on Black Friday may have to battle traffic and crowds, but they should be able to seek bargains without worrying about bad weather.
The National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Va., has forecasted a mostly clear night for Thursday with a chance of snow Friday.
“Let’s see here,” meteorologist Nick Fillo said as he checked the latest predictions. “We’re just in the middle of putting our latest forecast package together. We’re not looking for large amounts of rainfall as this front moves through.”
Black Friday shoppers could see the weather be “a little showery,” he said. “We’re talking early morning Friday when Black Friday is really kicking off.”
The Bluefield area can expect about a tenth of an inch of rain, “just enough to wet the surface,” Fillo said.
Less than a tenth of an inch of snow is expected Friday and Saturday. Any snow that lands on the ground is not expected to last very long.
“Maybe just a dusting on the grassy surfaces,” Fillo replied when asked about the potential snowfall. “The ground is still pretty warm, so anything that falls will melt quickly. On the higher ridgelines in the morning, you might see a coating of white.”
