BLUEFIELD —
A high wind watch for Mercer, Tazewell, and Bland counties begins Wednesday morning and continues into Wednesday night.
A strong cold front that is approaching will bring with it gusty winds. Southwest winds of 25 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are expected, according to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Va.
The strong winds could be capable of downing trees and power lines, according to the high wind watch. Heavy rain also is expected Wednesday, and the rain will change to snow late Wednesday night. The snow will continue on Thursday and Friday.
