COUNCIL, Va. —
Two Virginia residents died on the scene after a serious crash in Buchanan County.
Two Vansant men were killed and two others injured in a single-vehicle crash late Thursday night in Buchanan County, according to a statement released today by the Virginia State Police. Trooper G.S. Barnett is investigating the crash that occurred at 9:58 p.m. in the 4700 block of Helen Henderson Highway/Route 80 in Council.
A 2001 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling west on Route 80 when it ran off the left side of the road. The car overturned and struck a tree. The driver, Nathaniel A. Gilbert, 22, of Vansant, and a passenger, Christopher R. Gilbert, 20, of Vansant, died at the scene.
Two other passengers were injured in the crash. One passenger was flown to Bristol Regional Medical Center; the other was transported by ambulance to Buchanan General Hospital.
None of the vehicle's four occupants was wearing a seat belt, state police officials said. Alcohol was a factor in the crash, the report said.
The crash remains under investigation at this time.
