MAYBEURY —
A McDowell County post office received an unexpected delivery Monday.
A vehicle crashed through the front of the Maybeury Post Office at 9:45 a.m., according to Sgt. W.C. Tupper, of the West Virginia State Police Welch Detachment.
Tupper said excessive speed and rainy road conditions contributed to the accident. There was no one inside of the post office at the time of the accident.
Clifton G. Rowe, 66, of Big Sandy was driving his black Ford F150 pickup too fast for rainy road conditions along Route 52 when he lost control of his vehicle, Tupper said. According to Tupper, Rowe’s vehicle went through the parking lot of the Maybeury Food Mart and into the front of the Maybeury Post Office around 9:45 p.m.
Tupper said Rowe did not sustain injuries, though there was damage to his vehicle and to the post office building. Tupper said he does now know when the post office will be operational again or how much the structural damage to the building will cost to repair.
Rowe was issued a citation for driving to fast considering road conditions.
