AFTERNOON UPDATE: Labor Day Miner's Reunion to honor mine, rail workers

POCAHONTAS, Va. — Miners will take to the streets of Pocahontas this Labor Day, September 6, as part of the 19th Annual Coal Miner’s Reunion honoring Virginia mine and railroad workers.

The event begins at 8 a.m. with a Coal Miner’s Breakfast sponsored by the Laurel Meadows Park Committee at the Laurel Meadows Park. Breakfast will be $3 a plate. During this time, coal miner’s can also register for the parade from 8 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Pocahontas Town Hall. Registration allows miners and railroad workers to participate in the Coal Miner’s March and enjoy a free dinner later in the day.

The Coal Miner’s March begins on Centre Street at 11 a.m. It will be followed by stump speeches and a prize drawing before dinner is served.
