BLUEFIELD —
An account has been set up to help a local woman who was shot during a robbery that took the life of her husband.
The Monika Watkins Community Help Fund received its first donation today, according to Cindy Romano, one of the organizers. Funds are being raised to help Watkins, of Burton Street in Bluefield, who was severely injured Monday. She is currently being treated at a Roanoke, Va. hospital. Her husband, John Watkins, was shot and killed during the incident.
“It’s been set up at First Century Bank, and we got our first donation today,” Romano said. “If someone would like to contribute, they can walk into any First Century Bank branch.”
Donations can also be mailed to P.O. Box 82, Bluefield, WV 24701. Checks should be made payable to the Monika Watkins Community Help Fund.
