PRINCETON —
A trial for a man facing a charge of first-degree murder has been postponed in Mercer County Circuit Court.
Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ash had represented Marcus McKinley, 26, of Princeton, on a misdemeanor charge in 2004, according to records with the county circuit clerks’ office. A new trial date was set for March 19, 2013.
The county’s grand jury handed down a first-degree murder indictment earlier this year against McKinley. Bluefield police sought McKinley after Ayana Patton, 18, of Bluefield, died as the result of a gunshot wound while at the Opera House Apartments in downtown Bluefield.
The West Virginia Prosecuting Attorney Institute will appoint a special prosecutor to the case.
