BLUEFIELD, Va. —
A new retail outlet department store is coming to Bluefield, Va.
Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, one of the nation’s largest retailers of closeout and excess inventory merchandise, will open early next year at the old Big Lot’s store in Bluefield, Va. at the College Plaza Shopping Center, Town Manager Mike Watson said.
“Ollie’s is supposed to be going into where the old Big Lots is,” Watson said Thursday. “We received confirmation from the property manager last week.”
Watson said the company should begin making renovations to old Big Lots store in a month or so. He said the outlet store is scheduled to open at the site early next year — perhaps by March.
Ollie’s Bargain Outlet is another welcomed addition to Bluefield, Va., Mayor Don Harris said.
“It actually pretty well fills all of the big box stores we had vacant,” Harris said. “And I might say also that our staff has worked continually to fill all of the vacant buildings — particularly the big box buildings — in Bluefield, Va.”
The closest Ollie’s Bargain Outlet to the region is located in Beckley in Raleigh County.
Watson said all of the empty big box stores in the town will now be filled with the addition of Ollie’s Bargain Outlet at the old Big Lots and Wells Fargo and the dermatology office that are both relocating to the old Kroger store in the town.
“That’s the last of the big box stores,” Watson said. “But there are still several locations we are looking at trying to encourage people to come in to.”
Watson said about four tenant spaces remain open between the College Plaza Shopping Center and the Ridgeview Shopping Center. The town has received several inquires from prospective businesses interested in the remaining spaces. Watson said he couldn’t comment at this time regarding who the prospective tenants could be.
“But the larger big boxes —they have been empty for a while so it is nice to see them finally being occupied,” Watson said.
