BLUEFIELD, Va. —
George McGonagle, a long-time local businessman and general manager of the Bluefield Blue Jays, received the Distinguished Citizenship Award from Bluefield’s Riley-Vest Post No. 9 of the American Legion during the post’s annual Veterans Day program today.
McGonagle, 70, a five-year U.S. Air Force veteran and a tireless volunteer with the Greater Bluefield Chamber of Commerce, urged people to become active volunteers in the community.
“Do what you love and love what you do, because this is a great place to live,” he said.
The Riley-Vest post has honored distinguished citizens since 1937.
For more of McGonagle’s remarks, see Friday’s edition of the Bluefield Daily Telegraph.
