AFTERNOON UPDATE: Snow-covered sidewalks becoming a problem for pedestrians, motorists

BLUEFIELD — Snow-and-ice covered sidewalks across the region are becoming problematic for pedestrians and motorists alike.

Most sidewalks in Bluefield and Princeton were still impassable Monday due to large accumulations of snow and sleet. Two pedestrian accidents have already been reported in the region, including one in Bluefield and one on Interstate 77.

In the city of Bluefield, officials have announced the formation of a new pedestrian safety committee that will be looking at ways to improve pedestrian safety in Bluefield.
