PIPESTEM —
A Summers County resident died early Wednesday morning after a collision between a vehicle and a golf cart.
Cpl. Z.M. Duke of the West Virginia State Police detachment in Hinton was traveling north 7 a.m., along Route 20 in Pipestem when he encountered a two-vehicle crash and stopped to offer assistance.
In an incident report Duke filed later that day, he said that he learned from subjects at the scene that a vehicle traveling north had struck a person crossing Route 20 on a golf cart. The scene was south of Route 20’s intersection with True Road.
The person was identified as Jackie Lee Lawrence, 72, of Pipestem, Duke said in his report. First responders and Summers County Emergency Medical Service personnel arrived a short time after the crash was reported. Lawrence was pronounced dead at the scene.
Duke said that he conducted an investigation. A crash report is pending. Deputy C.J. Westling of the Summers County Sheriff’s Department assisted Duke at the scene.
