NEWHALL —
The West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating a fatal fire in McDowell County.
According to a spokesperson with McDowell County 911, firefighters and law enforcement responded to a report of a fire at a residence in Newhall at approximately 6 p.m. Monday. The sole occupant of the home was pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the individual has not been released on the order of the state fire marshal’s office, the spokesperson said. As of 8:30 p.m., the spokesperson said officials with the fire marshal’s office had not yet arrived on the scene.
Firefighters with the Berwind Volunteer Fire Department and War Volunteer Fire Department both responded to the scene as well as the McDowell County Sheriff’s Department and McDowell County Ambulance Authority. The spokesperson said the structure fire was fully involved by the time fire officials got on scene.
The West Virginia State Fire Marshal will lead the investigation into the incident.
