BLUEFIELD —
“Big” Al Palmer, a 33-year veteran coal miner who now works as a roof bolter operator and fire boss at a Wyoming County coal mine, responded sharply to the negative rhetoric relating to the coal industry.
“Coal miners used to be heroes,” Palmer said. “But now, many of my brothers and sisters in the coal industry fear for their family’s livelihoods.”
Palmer called on political leaders to reconsider their positions on the coal industry and “please don’t throw away our heritage,” he said.
For more of Palmer’s comments about the industry, see Saturday’s edition of the Bluefield Daily Telegraph.
