Wells Fargo Insurance Services plans move to Bluefield, Va.

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Wells Fargo Insurance Services will be trading in one Bluefield for another at the end of the year.

Bluefield Economic Development Director Greg Shrewsbury said company officials notified the city in June that their offices would be moving across the state line.

“They will be moving to Bluefield, Va., when their lease expires downtown at the end of the year,” Shrewsbury said. “They told us they had been contemplating this move for a couple of years and then contacted us in June to let us know they were intending to move. Their corporate offices made the decision to move them into Virginia. We talked to them about staying, but they said corporate had already made the decision.”

Bluefield, Va., Town Manager Mike Watson said the company will be moving in to the former Kroger building on South College Avenue.

“They are looking at moving into the former Kroger building across from Ammar’s,” Watson said. “We aren’t sure when they expect to be fully moved in. They are working on remodeling the building right now so it will suite their needs. I believe their lease begins at the first of the year on the building.”

Watson said he and others with the town are glad to see an empty building being filled.

“It is good to have something in that location again,” he said. “We were very glad to see they and the property owners were able to work something out for that location.”

Messages left with officials at Wells Fargo were not returned immediately Wednesday.
