ATHENS —
No injuries were reported after fire severely damaged a home off Mercer Springs Road near Athens.
Firefighters conducted two searches inside the home, but did not find anybody, said Capt. Brian Sanders of the Athens Volunteer Fire Department. Neighbors and passing motorists called Mercer County 911 when they saw smoke coming from the home. The occupants were not at home when the fire was reported at approximately 2:30 p.m.
