CHARLESTON —
A bill aimed at removing tolls from the West Virginia Turnpike cleared its first hurdle on Wednesday when it passed the House Roads and Transportation Committee on a unanimous vote, according to Delegate Marty Gearheart, R-Mercer, chief patron on the bill, HB 2559.
“We got this far last year, but not during the second week of the session,” Gearheart said. The bill now moves to the House Finance Committee where it was not brought up before the end of the session.
“I feel positive about it this session,” Gearheart, a member of the House finance committee said. “Of course, I’m an optimist.”
For more of Gearheart’s position as well as reaction from a Turnpike supporter to the committee’s action, see Thursday’s edition of the Bluefield Daily Telegraph.
