AFTERNOON UPDATE: Caruth battling a recurrence of brain cancer

BLUEFIELD — State Senate Minority Leader Don Caruth, R-Mercer, announced today that he is battling a recurrence of Glioblastoma Multiforme, a form of brain cancer, which he was diagnosed with in November of 2008.

Caruth, who has represented the Tenth Senatorial District since 2004, is currently at home with his family while he continues to seek medical treatment, according to a press release issued by Caruth’s legislative office.

“Senator Caruth’s family expressed their eternal gratitude to everyone who has shown great care and concern for them and the senator during his illness,” the press release said. “The compassion and out pouring of so many people has inspired the senator to work harder over the last year to fulfill his obligations.”

The news release further indicated Caruth is hopeful that his constituents will understand the need for him to be with his family while obtaining the best medical treatment possible. Caruth is requesting that all inquiries be directed to his state office in Charleston at (304) 357-7901 or via e-mail at don.caruth@wvsenate.gov.
