National Weather Service issues freeze warning for much of the region

BLUEFIELD — A freeze warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for much of the region tonight.

The warning area includes Mercer, Tazewell, Bland and Wythe counties. A freeze watch has been issued for McDowell County.

The warning and watch is in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday.

Temperatures are expected to range anywhere from a low of 28 degrees to 34 degrees. Unprotected vegetation sensitive to freezing temperatures may be killed, according to forecasters.
