BLUEFIELD —
City police arrested an armed teenager Monday afternoon, after being dispatched to Union Street on a report of an armed robbery of a female victim that the police did not identify.
Tyreke Miller, 18, whose address was not immediately available, was arrested at about 1:45 p.m. on Lewis Street after a pursuit that started when the female victim notified law enforcement that she was robbed at gunpoint by three African American males.
Lt. D.W. Dillow, Sgt. G.W. Lightfoot and Patrolman J.D. Shrewsbury responded to the call and began a vehicular search of the neighborhood. Shrewsbury spotted an individual who fit the description of one of the suspects, exited his cruiser and initiated a pursuit on foot.
Within a matter of minutes, Shrewsbury caught the suspect, removed a 9-millimeter Smith & Wesson handgun from him and placed the suspect under arrest.
Dillow and Lightfoot returned to the police station prior to Shrewsbury’s arrival with the suspect.
The suspect was taken into the station for processing.
Lightfoot confirmed that the pursuit was successful and Dillow confirmed that the suspect was 18 years old, but he did not know the correct spelling of the suspect’s name.
Detective A. L. Crook, also of the Bluefield Police Depart-ment, took charge of the investigation, but could not be reached for additional comment.
