AFTERNOON UPDATE: Court will rule on Milam competency in January
PRINCETON — A Mercer County circuit court judge will delay his ruling as to whether or not a Kegley-Spanishburg area man, charged with first degree murder, is competent to stand trial.
Bruce Lee Milam, 33, was charged in connection with the July 16, murder of Lester Sloane, 58, of Glenwood who was found dead at his home on Harley Drive in the Glenwood area. Milam allegedly confessed to the murder, according to testimony during his preliminary hearing. Mercer County Public Defender Lynn Fuda said that he would “move to suppress” the statement the defendant gave to police.
Mercer County Circuit Court Judge William Sadler said the court will address those issues during a pretrial hearing on Jan. 11, 2010. The trial is scheduled to start on Feb. 2, 2010.
