BLUEFIELD — Sign-up dates for the 2009 Community Christmas Tree campaign have been finalized.
Families can sign up their children for this year’s Little Jimmie party on Friday, Dec. 4, from 3 to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sign-ups will be held both days at the City Auditorium on Stadium Drive in Bluefield.
“Although the campaign will still kick-off on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, we have received many, many inquiries from local families who want to sign up their children,” Daily Telegraph Managing Editor Samantha Perry said. “We feel it is important to go ahead and announce these dates.”
Perry said the need for help is expected to be even greater this holiday season.
“It does appear just by the number of inquiries that there is a great need in the community, which is not surprising given the lingering effects of the economic downturn and the national recession,” Perry said.
Children — newborns to age 12 — will be signed up for the Community Christmas Tree party during the two day sign-up event at the city auditorium. Parents or legal guardians are required to bring their child’s birth certificate or WIC card.
The annual campaign, sponsored by the Daily Telegraph, provides toys and treats to hundreds of local children each year who may otherwise go without during the holiday season.
Additional details regarding this year’s Little Jimmie party will be announced in the Sunday, Nov. 29, edition of the Daily Telegraph.
