AFTERNOON UPDATE: Another round of compliance checks planned in region

BLUEFIELD - With the holiday season fast approaching, a new round of compliance checks planned across the region will attempt to keep area stores from selling alcohol to minors.

The compliance checks will begin today, and continue through the holiday season, Community Connections Executive Director Greg Puckett said.

“This is the first time we’ve done them in a couple of months, but we will be doing them on Saturday and Sunday,” Puckett said. “With it become the holiday season, it is just one of those times when there is going to be a lot of parties, and we want to make sure our youth are going to be safe and secure. We don’t want our store clerks selling (alcohol) of course directly to a minor. We just want to remind them it is unlawful to purchase alcohol and give it to a minor.”
