AFTERNOON UPDATE — Berger confirmed for federal judgeship
WASHINGTON — The U.S. Senate has approved Judge Irene Berger’s nomination as U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of West Virginia.
The nomination and approval of Berger, a native of Berwind in McDowell County, was applauded by both U.S. Sen. Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., and U.S. Sen Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va.
The vote in favor of Judge Berger’s nomination was unanimous — 96 to 0. The federal judgeship is seated in Bluefield.
