TAZEWELL, Va. — A Bluefield, Va., has been indicted on 64 counts of child pornography after a task force discovered numerous images on his home computer he allegedly downloaded from the Internet, officials said Monday.
Brandon Blair Kitts, 31, of 717 Mountain Lane, was indicted by the Tazewell County Grand Jury during a session last week, Commonwealth Attorney Dennis Lee said.
The investigation was conducted by the Bluefield, Va., Police Department, the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Department and Blue Ridge Thunder, an agency stationed at the Bedford, Va., County Sheriff’s Department that spearheads Internet child porn investigations.
“What occurred is that Blue Ridge Thunder, in the course of their monitoring the Internet and investigating the matter, identified Mr. Kitts as an individual who had received child pornography,” Lee said. “They contacted our sheriff’s department and on Aug. 22 a search warrant was executed on Mr. Kitts’ home, and in the course of that they seized his computer ... When the analysis of the computer was complete, we proceeded with the direct indictment on the child pornography charges,” Lee said.
During the search of Kitts’ residence, officers also discovered cocaine and marijuana on the premises, Lee said, and Kitts has also been indicted on possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana.
“At this point there is no evidence to indicate any local children were sexually abused,” Lee said. “It appears that it is all material that has been obtained through the Internet.”
Kitts is currently free on bond pending a court date in early January.
