PRINCETON — Hurricanes may brush the East Coast this weekend, but their rains are not expected to reach all the way to southern West Virginia and southwest Virginia.
Meteorologist Phil Manual with the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Va,. said the heaviest rains are expected in the areas of Lynchburg, Va., and Danville, Va., where up to 4 inches of rain are possible.
The Bluefield area could receive rain, but “nothing compared to the magnitude further east,” Manuel said.
Several activities scheduled for today were canceled earlier in the week when forecasts indicated up to a 70 percent chance of rain. Now a 50 percent chance of rain is expected.
Canceled events include the Survivor Picnic at Bluestone State Park and the New River Clean Up Day at Foster Falls.
