MATOAKA —
If plans go according to schedule, heavy equipment will arrive this week in the town of Matoaka and start reducing the risks of flooding.
The town recently received an $80,000 grant from the Hugh I. Shott, Jr. Foundation to clear sediment from the creek running through the town, Mayor Todd Colona said today.
Matoaka was hit by a major flood in 2002, and small floods have been a problem since that time, Colona said. Now that permits are in place, workers could start clearing years of sediment from the town’s creek by the end of this week.
For more on the operation’s possible benefits for the town, read Tuesday’s Daily Telegraph or visit www.bdtonline.com.
