BLUEFIELD —
The National Weather Service is asking area residents to prepare for “dangerous wind chills” that are expected tonight.
According to the weather service, gusty winds blowing west to northwest will combine with arctic air this evening to produce dangerous wind chills, and a wind chill advisory has been issued for Mercer, Monroe, Tazewell, Bland and Giles counties effective from 10 p.m. this evening through noon Tuesday.
Wind chill readings as low as 8 degrees below zero are predicted along with temperatures ranging between 9 and 26 degrees as well as winds between 10 and 35 miles per hour. The weather service said these conditions could lead to frost bite and hypothermia if precautions against the weather are not taken.
