WELCH —
A fire that ravaged a downtown Welch building was extinguished at approximately 5 p.m., Tuesday evening according to officials with McDowell County Emergency Services.
The fire began at 9:45 a.m. at the five-story Libby Building on McDowell Street and required at least six fire departments working for around seven hours to extinguish.
Assistant State Fire Marshal Scott Rodes was also dispatched to the scene to investigate the nature of the fire due to the size of the building involved. Rodes said it was too early in the investigation to comment on the cause of the fire.
