BLUEFIELD —
Charges are pending against two men regarding a recent string of vehicle thefts across Bluefield.
Dustin Ray Reed, 20, of Bluefield and Mark Lewis, 27, of South Charleston were arrested on probation violations Tuesday and charges are pending against both men for breaking and entering vehicles, according to Bluefield Police Chief J.W. “Joe” Wilson.
Both men are presently in custody at the Bluefield City Jail. Wilson said Reed and Lewis are the only two suspects in the thefts at the present time.
Lt. D.M. Dillow with the Bluefield Police Department said items have been stolen from numerous vehicles across the city in the past few weeks, including six vehicle thefts throughout the day Tuesday. Dillow said a large majority of the thefts were from vehicles left unlocked.
“The best advice we have is to lock your vehicle,” Dillow said. “Take anything of value out of your vehicle and keep it locked. If there is nothing of value in the car, it will not be a target. Leaving your wallet in the glove compartment, your pocketbook in the console or your laptop sitting in the car is too tempting for some people.”
