A Bluefield man was arrested Tuesday morning in connection with the shooting death of a Burton Street man.
John Watkins was shot and killed at his home around 11:40 p.m. Monday night, Bluefield Police Chief Joe Wilson said. Watkins’ wife, Monica Watkins, was also shot and is being treated at a Roanoke Hospital. Wilson could not confirm that Monica Watkins received other injuries in the attack.
Donald Adams, 54, of Bluefield, was arrested and charged in connection with the attack around 5 a.m. on Bluefield Avenue after a short foot pursuit by officers, Wilson said.
Lt. C.S. Myers said Adams is charged with one count of first degree murder.
“Obviously, more charges may be pending later,” Myers said.
Adams will go before a magistrate today for a detainer hearing, Wilson said.
